Future Hazard Water Treatment Plant #2
South Perry Water Extension Project
Perry County, Kentucky

The South Perry Water Project is one of the largest on-going water supply projects in the State of Kentucky, having an estimated ultimate construction cost of approximately $20m. H. A. Spalding Engineers has been involved in every phase of this project from its inception. Tasks completed by our firm include: Original concept, Author of feasibility study (Master Planning Document), Designer of distribution system, Designer of collection system, Designer of treatment facility, Construction services for Phase I distribution project (approx. $5.2m), Led multi-discipline team including Geotechnical, Cultural-Historic, Archeological, and Geological Sciences. The treatment/collection facility is unique in that it will treat underground water stored in huge voids created by decades of mining activities. Although not of pristine quality, this water will be made potable for far less cost than surface waters typical of the Commonwealth. The plant will also have the ability to treat surface waters from a nearby stream. The distribution project, when complete, will provide service to approximately 2,500 homes and businesses. Because of the rugged terrain, the distribution project will consist of a total of nine (9) storage tanks of various size, ten (10) booster stations, and eight (8) pressure stations. Currently, Phase I of the project is complete. This project phase constructed four (4) water storage tanks including two (2) tanks of 750,000 gallons each, five (5) booster stations, and two (2) pressure stations. All noted facilities are controlled by telemetry and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.
