Lotts Creek Waterline Extension
Perry County, Kentucky

Like many other waterline projects in Eastern Kentucky this project began with a Ground Water Contamination Study funded by AML to determine if the water quality and quantity had been affected by Pre-Law (before May 1982) mining. Based on the interviews, mine history and water samples, it was determined that the study area had been adversely affected by mining during this period and the recommendation was installation of waterlines to supply public water to the area. Phase I of the project extended waterline 11.8 miles and included a 300,000-gallon water tank. The project serves approximately 280 households in addition to the Cordia School with an enrollment of approximately 200. Phase II of the project installed an additional 12 miles of waterline, two tanks (54,000 and 63,500 gallons), two booster stations and 185 meters. This project is located in Knott County, but will be provided water by the City of Hazard until such time as the Knott County Water District can supply water to the system.
