    KY 7 Relocation

H. A. Spalding Engineers, Inc. completed the preliminary design for KY 7 relocation from the intersection of US 460 in West Liberty to the intersection with KY 519 north of town.  Based on public opinion the urban section from US 460 to the Licking Valley Center did not progress into Final Design.  The project includes truck climbing lanes when the grade justifies.  The existing alignment follows the Licking River, but the new alignment crosses the mountains east of the river.  This alignment allows the new construction to minimally disturb the floodplain and flowage easement for Cave Run Lake.  Another advantage is that is does not require acquisition of the mobile home park and other homes along existing KY 7. The project includes a bridge over Elk Fork, a tributary of the Licking River and several large pipe culverts for the smaller tributaries. The project was let in December 2002. Transportation Cabinet personnel designed the bridge and provided or contracted for the environmental work associated with the project.
